WRESTLING

A no-equipment sport, in which two contestants fight each other with their bare hands to throw or pin the other down.
Wrestling is one of the oldest and most basic of all sports.  Many of the hold and throws used now are the same as those used in the championship of the ancient civilisation of Egypt, Crete, China and Greece.  Wall paintings in Egypt depicting wrestling date back to 3400 BC.  It was in Greece that the sport really developed and was introduced in the Olympic games in 704 BC in the eighteenth Olympiad.  Since 1896, when the modern Olympic games were revived, wrestling has become a regular event.
