SWIMMING

Swimming is the act of moving along in water by means of movements of the body, specially arms and legs.  Competitive swimming in four recognized styles tests the speed of the swimmer.
Swimming dates back to the great days of early Greece and Rome.  As early as 36 BC, in Japan during the reign of Emperor Suigiu, swimming competitions were held.  Swimming was included in modern Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens.  The first women's events were held at the Stockholm Games of 1912.  Since Mexico Olympic Games which were held in 1968, 31 races (16 men and 15 women) have come into existence.
