Punjab Police is one of the pioneer police forces in the country to introduce computerisation of police records. The Punjab Police Computer Centre was set up in 1981. Initially, only Crime-Criminal and Finger Print applications were developed, but now various more areas of police functioning have been computerised. The various districts in Punjab are now connected to police headquarters through modems. The Centre is also planning to use Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) technology for wide area networking. Keeping pace with the contemporary advancements in the field of crime and crime prevention, the Punjab Police is well-equipped to face the challenges of any kind. It has trained professionals to use modern tools and techniques of maintaining law and order.
